It is a bit wrong to lump silver in with gold. Gold is almost a 100% government buy pure play and silver is 2x as volatile and tracks with metals commodity prices as well as gold.

It's generally better to buy silver directly than the big silver miners. Smaller miners like EXK or GPL can outperform but I think they are closely balanced with the added risk. I see little reason to buy a richly valued large silver miner.

I agree with the author. The historicals on miners are bad vs silver itself. They tend to rise slower and fall faster and harder than silver itself.
