The Alternative Energy Breakout? [View article]
Regarding clean energy wind and hydrothermal are probably the best. Solar is very cyclical, has too many competitors, and the technology is advancing too fast to make their book value real. Plants that are depreciated over 10 years can be obsolete tomorrow and frankly speaking under 20% efficiency rating means you probably would be better off waiting 2 years to get an install that lasts over 10 years and has this type of efficiency.
It is sad watching people get ripped off installing 10-12% efficiency panels which solar panel makers will almost give away free. Sadly, old people are the victim of most of these solar low quality panel scams that the installers and panel makers know the buyers will never get their money's worth out of the short lifespan of the panel. Solar is expected to sell off again either late this year or early next as more capacity, higher performance, and better yields come online. So be careful stocking up on it because of the hype.
As for ethanol and corn fuel plays be careful there too. There is serious debate at cutting off ethanol subsidies simple because it makes no economic sense and is encouraging a glut of corn and a shortage of other crops that is causing massive food inflation. Sadly, even people in Washington know that the ethanol game is now more a farm subsidy than anything else. Ethanol is barely a short term solution and is certainly not a long term solution. Focus on LNG mass transit is a better, more economically sensible solution as even China has learned.
Brazil's New Housing Proposals Look Familiar [View article]
Now no one wants them to go belly up because it would throw the whole US housing market into a tailspin. The US housing market forgot the word capitalism and risk/reward the day CRA came into being. The banking institutions forgot the how to bank the day they revoked Glass Stegall and haven't looked back since (even today they still keep pumping and dumping mortgages rather than holding them on their books). Bank of the West and a few others are one of the few banks that actually hold the mortgages they sell and they are French lol. Maybe they should teach the American's a little about capitalism and laissez-faire.
No wonder we are in the predicament we are in. Once you suspend or turn your back on the free market and you're just asking for it.
